The original Dark Souls
was released on September 22nd, 2011, quickly receiving praise
for it's rich
world-building and story, along with gaining a notoriety for its
difficulty among many.
Dark
Souls takes place in the land of Lordran, the home of the Gods
and the location of the First Flame,
the supposed source of life in the world.
The player character is one of the 'Undead', humans who have
seemingly lost the ability to die. All those
who bear the supposed "Dark Sign", the branding of that
Undead, are fated to eventually lose their minds
and go hollow, reverting to a primal, mindless state as they
lose any motivation to continue on, eventually
losing their minds in the process.
In the hopes of avoiding such a fate, the player must, as the
Chosen Undead, is told to "link the fire," a
process by which they give their lives to end the curse of
undeath for everyone else. However, the
truth of this story is hard to verify, and perhaps there may
be another option...
